The indicator reports the percentages of villages within a boundary area that have at least one post offices that have been actively operating in the last year. The data are taken from the Villages Potential (Podes) data, from 1996-2019.
The proliferation of post office units has remained confined to areas with developed economies. in 2019, only 9% of villages throughout Indonesia had at least one actively operating post offices. However, when looking at province-level disaggregation, the data suggests that 83% of villages in DKI Jakarta had at least one actively operating post offices in 2019, which is substantially higher than the national rate. Other provinces with high post office penetration include DI Yogyakarta (37% of villages), Banten (19%), and Kepulauan Riau (17%). Post office penetration remains low in Eastern provinces, with penetration rates in Papua and Papua Barat remaining as low as 1.8% and 1.4%, respectively.
