The percentages reported in the tabulation are the district-wide, province-wide and nation-wide percentage of villages that had experienced at least one incidence of earthquakes during the past three years. However, differently than previous years, in the 2019 Podes, incidence of natural disasters were only asked for the last year. As such, incidence in 2019 might systematically differ relative to preceding years. Data are taken from Statistics Indonesia's Villages Potential (Podes) natural disaster module from 1990-2019.
Nearly one out of ten villages in Indonesia had experienced floodings between 2018-2019. The province of Sulawesi Tengah reports the highest incidence of earthquakes in 2019, where nearly 77% of all its villages were estimated to experience earthquakes at least once during the last three years. Districts with the highest incidence of earthquakes are the ones are either vulnerable due to geographical position, or ones that had experienced major earthquake episodes in the last three years: (1) Lombok; (2) Sumbawa; (3) Nias; (4) Mataram; (5) Palu, among others.
